I would use the vinegar - with a little elbow grease that will remove lime scale deposits or anything else of that nature. You can use pure vinegar, just be sure to rinse everything thoroughly afterwards until there is no smell of vinegar.

Just to clarify, I would use the vinegar only because of the mineral deposits. If I were disinfecting a tank I would use bleach, but for cleaning that isn't necessary.

There are chemicals to remove lime/calcium, but if you use them rinse thoroughly, then rinse again.

A bleach and water solution is good for clean out a cage, it kills all kinds of pathogens, including Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis. Just remember to rinse thoroughly after cleaning. While rinsing I often use a dechlorinator in the mix.

Cleaning with warm water is safe to frogs, but unaffective in killing germs. Vinegar is a little better but not by much.

Vinegar is acetic acid in water. Acid reacts with bases, and the mineral salts that cause limescale in tapwater are bases.

I used salt as an abrasive to clean water marks on my tank, it worked really well. I didn't know you could use vinegar, thanks for the tip John!

A razor blade works well too for removing mineral deposits.
