Default Almost had a heart attack, but it all turned out okay.

I'm totally new to frog-keeping and I have 7 PCF's in a big tank. I've been feeding them a mixture of crickets and fruit flies. The frogs are still young, some bigger than others, but I always ask for the small crickets and usually the ones they give me are pretty small. But there was a bigger one in the bag this time. One of my smaller frogs got it and had that cricket hanging half out of her mouth for a looong time. She was slowly walking around on a big rock, just hanging for dear life onto the cricket. I tried looking all over the site but couldn't find any references to prey getting stuck in a frog's mouth. I was starting to freak out and think I was going to have to figure out how to remove this cricket from my poor froggy's face. Just when I was about to ask about it, I discovered the dead cricket laying on top of the moss in the tank.

Whew! Crisis averted. But I think I will be more selective about letting bigger crickets into the tank from now on.

You could pour the crickets into a mason jar (I do this for dusting them) and then remove any large crickets before putting them in.

Good to hear the little one spit that big cricket out :-)

Good idea. Thanks! I'm sure I will freak out less about stuff like that once I get used to the frogs and know more about taking care of them. I just don't want to do anything that would harm them.
