So im going to start constructing a planted living vivarium for a pair of poison darts that we are soon going to purchase. i had one question though. how would i clean the tank out? all the plants will have been planted, the moss will have grown on everything, and the water is filtered. would i have to take everything out or what?
With planted tanks like that most people only clean them every 6 months or year, but they do get cleaned. Plants do a pretty good job of cleaning up the environment, but because tanks are closed (and incomplete) systems, they do need to be cleaned. Soil should be replaced, at least partially, and they drainage material will need to be cleaned , as well as the glass and plant leaves and other things that will get dirty regardless.
I know it's a drag to take it apart, but as long as you do it carefully, it shouldn't be a problem. Also, the larger the cage, the less often it has to be cleaned, but make sure it isn't so large that they can still find their food.

thanks i was planning on getting a 29 gallon. the plants i want to put in are a snake plant, some bromeliads, a peace lilly, and riccia moss growing on the substrate, waterfall, and also the coco huts. its going to be pretty wide open yet there will be many places for them to hide if they want to. ill post a picture when im finished.
