Best substrate for American Toads

I was wondring what you guys think is the best substrate for American toads. I currently am using dirt and am not very fond of and an am looking to switch substrates.

I use Coconut mulch for my American toads, I did use moss before but one of my toads swallowed some, became impacted and died

I have been looking at the droppings passed by my toads, it seems mostly made up of bits of substrate. Coconut fiber and spaghum peat moss seem to be about of the same particle size. May I ask how big was your toad that died?
Been considering feeding them in a plastic tub so they don't ingest all that substrate.

The toad that passed was roughly 4 inches, female. I asked the vet about the chance of her being egg bound...the vet was unsure.

"Egg binding does not affect amphibians. Coir, aka coco mulch is probably the best. It is best to use the compressed brick type rather than the chunky type. Toads should be fed from a substrate-less dish rather than on the substrate. Safest way to feed them is to remove them to an empty plastic Sterilite box.

I like to use play sand mixed with coco fiber.
