Hi just wondering is there any wood thats toxic to dartfrogs ,would like to hear replies.
Cedar is the big one to avoid, the oils in it cause respiratory irritation and can lead to infections. Most sources recommend staying away from any aromatic woods like pine or juniper as well.
Tony what kind of woods would you recommend?
I would recommend bamboo, dried moopai, and drift would is ok if it isn't going to be in standing water. Those three have low irritant levels. All wood though is going to possess some alkali/alkaline compounds (all woody plants contain them in their bark and cork cambium). Hope this helps.
Mango wood is good also ...I recommend sterilizing any wood you put in your enclosure by boiling and baking as you just dont know what it has been in contact with.

Ebony, where does one find Mango wood? I didn't even know that they sold that, or do you collect it yourself? It's good to know that there is one more wood that is safe to use.
I order it in from my local pet shop..Its really cool as it twists a bit like a vine but is really think. great for large frogs. I will find out for you. I have them in all my enclosures..Here are some photo's of the wood. I get it at 3 foot long and I cut it to fit.
