Hi,
We're starting to set up a natural looking viv for some European tree frogs and were looking at which local trees we could use for branches. Does anybody know if there are any trees and live plants that aren't safe for use in frog tanks?
Thanks
Claire
it helps us if we know where u reside. Anyway, u can't use cypress for sure. Driftwood is good. But everything u use has to be bleached, boiled, or baked. 250• For a hour, 1 to 10 bleach solution over nite, then plain water over nite and dried, or boiled, I'm not sure on boil time. Some woods are just to continue to rot on you, so check condition of it, you want something that's dried already, and kind of sun baked. I thaught there was another wood that's unsafe( toxic) but not sure what it was. I used natural wood in mine and shelf mushrooms, u might wana check my alblums. By the way what kind of frog do u have, or plan on getting?
I'm over the uk, and looking to get european green tree (Hyla arborea) when I've finished the viv
We if u have time there's woo much u can do!! One guy perfected PVC pipe that can be melted and u can use search engine here to see details of that process. Some people also make the vines. Use brown silicone and make sure to cure for 48 hours. Look through valarium photo alblums and u will see slot of home projects people have done, beautiful stuff!!! Make sure to set up cage and monitor temps way before frog gets home. Post us some Picts on your progress!!! Welcome to. The forum
Here's a useful article on safe wood types and how to treat them:
