Hi everyone
I was wondering why do my brown tree frogs aka whistling tree frogs change colour, when my first one became a full frog it was very dark brown and gold now it's got green flecks on it's back and is an even darker brown than before with gold flecks. My second one was nearly all gold and is now brown with green legs and gold markings.
Why have they changed colour?
Thanks to anyone who helps.
i was gona put up a pic of how my whistling tree frog tadpoles change colour depending on the colour of the container there in, in a clear or white container they go real pale and i the black lined container they are dark, also they go pale at night when the light is switched off.
I'll have to take pics of mine aswell :P. Last night they were a really dark brown almost black, this morning they're a creamy golden, though like dlord said they go pale at night.
It happens to my Green and Golden Bell frogs too. At night they will be pale almost a glowing gold and in the morning they will go back to their normal dark colouration.
It's really fascinating isn't it? These are my first frogs, so I had no idea that they did that :P. I've learnt a LOT about frogs since I've had my boys, they are really awesome animals!
Yes it is fascinating, I didn't know frogs changed colour based on the light either. I think it might be a camoflouge thing. You should make an album of your frogs
i was wondering why too, and heres some videos of my ewingi tadpoles changing colour, i wonder if its there blood or something this link here: " http://www.frogforum.net/tree-frogs/...html#post71774 "
heres a video of 2 ewingi tadpoles, the dark tadpole has just been taken from its black plastic lined 'aquarium'(small puddle in terrarium really) and placed in a 20 L clear plastic container where you'll see a lighter coloured ewingi tadpole that has been raised in there, not long after an hour or so the dark tadpole became light too

AWWWWWWW my internet won't load the vids for some reason
I have a mix of dark brown and light cream colored WBTF's
I think its got to do with there surroundings and whether it is day or night.
