    Default Lighting for exoterra viv???

    Hi all

My fab hubby has bought me an exoterra rainforest setup for my whites tree frogs for christmas.

The canopy has space for two bulbs.

Can anyone tell me what they use??? I was going to use one repti glo 2 bulb (26W)

    What do you think??

    Thanks Clare

    Hi Clare,
I use one Repti-glo 2.0 bulb with helps with the live plants and generates almost no heat. I then use a 2nd bulb at 15 watts to get my temps to about 80 degrees in the day if needed. Since my home temps are at 68 - 70 at night the unit needs no heat.
The 2ND bulb can be a red night time bulb or black light so you can add some heat at night if needed or just to add some light for night time viewing.

I find that most of the time I can just get away with only the 2.0 bulb on since the sun heats my room to a nice 75 - 80 in the day.

I keep Red Eye Tree Frogs in this setup.

    Don

I would purchase the 26W Compact Fluorescent bulbs sold in supermarkets or hardware shops - just be sure to get the daylight spectrum ones (they have a color temperature between 5000 and 1000 Kelvin). I use the 6500 K ones in all my terrariums. I've yet to see a reason for purchasing proprietary reptile bulbs for amphibians.

I use the 26 W Exo-Terra 2.0 bulbs. Originally I bought them because I didn't realize that frogs didn't need reptile bulbs, but the lighting is really nice and bright, and I think it helps with my live plants.
