Andre - the "Midget" Albino ACF!

As some of you know, I have a "midget" african clawed frog - - for obvious reasons I am not calling him a "dwarfed" african clawed frog because people could easily get confused about the species!

I bought him last November as a teeny little albino ACF...in that year...he has grown just a little bit over an inch!! He developed his nuptial pads in the beginning of the summer...and at that same time he seemed to stop growing! He is not being housed with my adult regular sized African Clawed Frogs (for those who don't know - ACF cannibalize smaller frogs if they can - and this little guy is just small enough that I do not want to risk it!)

He is currently being housed with a tropicalis clawed frog (they max out at 2") and two of my own babies who are results from a breeding on July 25th - this makes them just over 4 months old now...

he is the regular albino, the babies are a light marbled and a reticulated albino - take a look at how tiny he is!!

We have affectionately named him "Andre the Giant" - "Andre" for short

pictures 1 & 2 - Andre is on the left, the 4 month olds on the right and center. In picture 2 you can really see his nuptial pads are fully formed.




picture 3: his vent perfectly lines up with the 17" mark and his nose is well before the 19" mark - - under two inches long!!!

How cute! My 2 ACFs were always smaller too. Bibbit came in at just 2 inches and Freckles is about the same.

Your frogs are just awesome! Andre is so cute and I am surprised that he has nuptial pads so early in life. Usually males become sexually mature at about 3 inches and takes a year or more. A while back on another thread, I mentioned how intelligent Xenopus are. Looks like Andre knows just how to line up to get measured. Did you give him a little treat?

He is definitely an odd little guy! I do believe he has grown as much as he is going to...I have owned him close to 13 months now so he is between 15-18 months of age
