I was going to take a few pics of my gravid Nerodia fasciata pictiventris today because she was HUGE! When I was walking up to the tank I saw a single baby near the side of the tank, upon further inspection I found a whole mess of them in a bundle under mom. I counted 40 in all. Here are pics of the (now thin) mother and some of the babies.
Awesome, I love Nerodia. How is yours as a pet? I find that my N. sipedon is incredibly owner responsive. I do not handle him, but he interacts with me through the glass (ie he knows I feed him haha).
Congratulations. I love water snakes. Thats quite a brood you've got there.
That's pretty awesome. How large do the adults get?
This big female was the first one I've kept in at least 3 years. She's around 34 inches long, but I've read adults can get up to 42 inches. When I bought her there was a female in the next enclosure that had dropped 49 babies the day before.
Those are shockingly large clutch sizes. Thats quite exciting though. Good luck raising those little ones.
what r you going to do with all those little snakes? what do they eat? cool post, thanx.
