Hi,
Can anyone help identify this little guy (or girl)? It's about 3cm long, and was found in a wooded area of a bog / swamp.
Interesting looking frog. Where in Canada are you?
I'm in Eastern Ontario, Rideau watershed.
Nothing is immediately leaping to mind on what it is. I am looking through my books, but so far, nothing is looking close....hopefully another member will have an idea.
The amusing thing is, I was actually taking a picture of some bracket fungi attached to the tree at left, and this fellow jumped into the frame. I didn't take any special notice of the markings at the time, so didn't make a closer examination.
Without checking out the books, it looks like Anaxyrus americanus to me.
I was thinking some kind of toad, too, but the skin looks really smooth and that was throwing me off.
Lol-I guess he or she wanted to be the center of attention!
Looks like an American toad, Bufo americanus americanus. Though I just found out this name changed to Anaxyrus americanus when I searched for what Kurt called it.
Handy list to help identify Ontario frogs/toads:

Thanks for the help. I think the small size, dark colour and fairly smooth-looking skin put me off.
