Hey everyone,
I am an owner of three White's tree frogs and was wondering what my fellow frog keepers do to keep up with your hungry froggo's demands? I usually go to Petco and buy 45-50 crickets a week and one container of superworms for the occasional treat. I gutload my crickets by giving them water cubes and vegetables. I find that towards the end of the week a lot of the crickets have died and although I do get enough out of the lot to feed my frogs 2 or 3 times a week, I am wondering if there is a more sustainable way to do this? Do people order theirs online or go to your local pet supply store? I know some people will breed roaches to make it easier but I'm not sure if those can be fed regularly to White's tree frogs?
Any input would be helpful!
Thanks :-)
The key to keeping crickets alive is removing any that die as soon as possible. Once a few die and begin to rot it’s long until more do the same. Keep them in as large a container as you can (large deep Rubbermaid containers are perfect) with as much ventilation as you can. I’ve kept crickets up to a month this way. Roaches are great but they tend to bury themselves in the substrate and they don’t stimulate prey drive the way crickets do. The trick with roaches (Dubia) is to crush the heads and leave them on a cup. They’ll twitch more and are less likely to escape and disappear.
You can purchase feeders online cheaper and it's better to get in bulk. Josh's Frogs, Rainbow Mealworms and Carolina Biological are the best to buy feeders.
You can be using Mazuri Better Bug Gutload as a feeder for the crickets. You can add in crested gecko diet by repashy and a color enhancer as well as calcium with D3 by Tetrafauna. Also you can purchase cricket quencher by Flukers. These methods are the best because it helps keep the crickets alive longer and makes them the most nutritious for your frogs.
You can also purchase other feeders for your frogs.

Butterworms
Hornworms
Silkworms

Dubia Roaches
Orange Head Roaches
Repti Worms
Banded and Domestic Crickets

Have purchased feeders from Rainbow Mealworms for years. They are high quality, prices are quite reasonable, and the customer service people are very helpful and reliable.
