I am a bit confused as to why only toads of the "bufo" group are true toads.
What makes them "true toads"? Are toads like fire belly toads not real toads? If not, then what are they?
Can "non true toads" breed with "true toads"? Can they be cage mates if they are approximately the same size?
From my understanding a FBT is more frog like but called a toad. Similar to the spadefoot toads.
Are you considering keeping different toads together or are you just curious as to whether or not you can keep them together?
True toads some can interbreed with each other and a few other species but it's not recommended. It produces offspring that have a low success rate in living for a long life.

Some can be kept together but you would have to watch to see if one species dominates. Fowler's Toads, Eastern Spadefoot Toads and Southern Toads all live in very similar conditions. American Toads actually live in different conditions but are adaptable.

"Toad" and "frog" are not scientific terms, and they don't necessarily have specific meanings. Toads are generally dryer, rougher, and squatter than frogs, but there is considerable overlap. For example, Sheep frogs and narrow mouth toads are both in the same family, and very similar in appearance. Toad and frog are just words.
"True toad" is just a phrase which attempts to specify the Bufonids- presumably necessary due to the vague non-specific nature of the word "toad".
