Thread: Driftwood Question

  1. #1

    Default Driftwood Question

I found some old driftwood in a Styrofoam container stored in my basement that I used years ago for a freshwater fish tank. Other than soaking it and scrubbing it, is there anything else I need to do so it is safe? They were bought at a fish store years ago. Thanks.

Boiling it for about 30 minutes wouldn’t hurt and is a nice little insurance policy against microscopic organisms that may be living in or on it.

Thank you for the reply. The pieces I have are too big to boil. I read that some people bake their pieces in the oven. I just need to convince my wife that it won't burn the house down.

Yeah, the oven is an option. I have even used a propane grill to heat up some larger pieces.

Spouses sometimes just don’t get it. It took my wife a few years of boiling pieces to actually trust me not to do anything stupid lol
