Hello everyone, I was wondering what possible amphibians could I add to this setup that I have.
i have a 10x10x10 (inch) cube that’s empty now (used to House a centipede), right now it literally just has a tiny 1” water bowl, a 2” layer of coco fiber and a small piece of cork as a hide. What amphibian would do best in this kind of setup? It has to be something that doesn’t require any kind of electronics (no lights, heaters, filters, etcetera) and has to be comfortable in an enclosure of this size permanently. I can change the substrate and add/remove hides if needed.
i don’t have too much experience with amphibians, I currently just have a dart frog (D. Tinctorius azureus) and I wanted somethig a little different.
That size is a bit small for most species. You could use it as a grow out though for a small ceratophrys species (Pac-Man frog) until it needs a larger enclosure.
Yea that’s the thing, it would have to be something that would be comfortable in that for its whole life. I’d get a bigger tank but I’m already jam packed with enclosures. It can be any kind of amphibian, not just a frog or a toad. If there isn’t any species that would do fine in that, I guess I’ll try looking for a reptile that’ll be fine in that, if not I’ll just have to settle with an arthropod again.
You could probably get a day gecko or a dart frog maybe
Don’t day Geckos require UVB and heat tho? My room stays at about 72-74 degrees.
I meant mourning geckos and all you would need is like a lamp
I’d get something like that but it’s just that I can’t keep anything electrical, the way I have my shelf setup, any little cable would have to go across my room for the nearest outlet and it’ll just look ugly.
I hate to say this but I think your out of luck. Your best bet would be to get an invert in there and call it a day.
I guess if they’re really is no species of reptile or amphibian that’ll do well in that I guess I’ll have to settle with an invert of some sort
edit: I’ve googled around and so far I found bumble toads, says 2 adults would be fine in a large critter keeper (almost the same size as my enclosure) and they don’t need any heating or lighting. I may go with these if there’s nothing else so far.
My first choice would be a dwarf clawed frog. Easy to care for and one would fit in a 2 gallon tank. They just need clean water and a good pellet fish food or similar. Temperature about 75 degrees. A small tree frog will work too. They require live food, but no heater or light.

How many times would I need to change the water for the clawed frog or would it need a filter?
Live food I don’t mind using, I have many pets already that I feed insects and rats to. Any specific tree frog or any tree frog would work?
i also thought of glass frogs, would these work as well?
It will survive without a filter and with frequent water changes, but it will not thrive and its lifespan would be shortened. I definitely would not use an enclosure that small for any species of tree frogs. Inverts are your best bet. If I had an enclosure that size, I might try to find some vampire crabs.

Tree frog wise I’ve managed to find glass frogs and tiger monkey frogs. It’s down to those 2 or a bumble bee toad. I think I may end up getting a glass frog of some sort, I can’t find any bumble bee toads for sale, and I would assume a glass frog would be more comfortable in that size than a tiger monkey (even though it supposably says they’ll do fine in at least a 5 gallon tank)
Tree frogs, even the smaller ones, are aboreal, and like to move around, so I really worry about putting them in an enclosure that small. Again, they might survive for a little while, but they will not thrive and their lifespans will be shortened. Glass frogs' recommended enclosure size is a 20G - http://www.joshsfrogs.com/catalog/bl...d-glass-frogs/
A tiger legged monkey tree frog could live in a 10G, but will do better in 20. They need a basking spot that will be above your room temp, so you would need to provide heating: http://www.joshsfrogs.com/catalog/bl...na-care-sheet/
I would not put a frog into the enclosure that you have.

I agree 100%. That is way too small of an enclosure for any kind of amphibian, especially with no support equipment. A tarantula, walking stick, millipede or some other invert would be the best creature for that small of an enclosure.
