Hi there
i have 3 eastern American toads that I regularly feed crickets and night crawlers. I usually buy my night crawlers from petsmart as this is the most cost efficient place in my area to buy them. Up until recently, the store has been questionable in their treatment of animals ( stick tail disease in leopard gecko) and it was making me nervous that somehow it would be spread to my toads. So as a result I have been buying them from a bait store which charges more for them and has them in bedding of dirt and newspaper. This is also making me nervous because I don’t want to feed them toxic worms. Where should I buy the worms petsmart? Or the bait shops. Any help would much appreciated
thanks
I've used bait store worms hundreds of times with no issues, but I do rinse them before using.
"Stick tail" in geckos is not a disease, it is a symptom of something else, for example impaction. I can't imagine a scenario where a disease could be spread to your toads simply because the crawlers were in the same building as a sick gecko, at least not a very likely scenario.
thanks for your reply. So if I rinse the worms then they’ll be safe? Or would they have perhaps injested the newspaper in the container and become contaminated from the ink.
