Hey Froggy Hobbyists / Breeders!
I have a concern that came to me through the grape vine could use your guidance on this as I am not an expert on the subject matter specifically at hand.
Vivarium Backgrounds!
I have used basic exoterra foam backgrounds (shaped like the rocks but also carries polyurethane and crickets eat it like candy)
I have used basic Cork Backgrounds. (WILL ROT OVER TIME)
and I currently been Using "Great Stuff Pond and Stone" custom made backgrounds and have had great success up to now. However a concerned hobbyist has come to me and try to enlighten me on some "NEW NEWS about the great stuff backgrounds"
I have been warned possibly that Great stuff is "OPEN CELLED FOAM" and actually leaches polyurethane into vivarium soils and water supplies under high humidity conditions and will possibly, eventually kill your frogs off.
Can Someone Confirm or Deny this before I buy a new type of background from UNIVERSAL ROCK.
I have more investigating to do on UNIVERSAL ROCK but not willing to lose my stock of frogs due to this newly leaked information in my neck of the woods.
Thank you all for your guidance.

My builds all contain black pur foam. Going on 3 years now I’ve had no fatalities, I maintain high humidity and my dart frogs all reproduce successfully in the presence of it. That’s not to say it cannot cause harm under the right circumstances though. However I personally have had no negative experiences. In the absence of a legitimate article in a scientific journal confirming it I’d just use common sense and not panic.
i would have to agree that this would need to be an article that would relate to a scientific study that took place over a series of 5-20 years.
