Default Raising Ants in a Vivarium

I am in the process of constructing a vivarium and the toads I intend to put inside eat ants. I would like to raise the ant colony inside the tank so it is part of the self-sustaining cycle. Can this be done or are the ants likely to take over the vivarium?

The toad is an Oak Toad.

Check out ants Canada. They guy has a great handle on ant care. Bear in mind though, You may have to get overly elaborate tIf you want to maintain a colony within the vivarium.

I love Ants Canada he inspires me as a keeper. To answer you question if toads and ants can be in a vivarium together the answer is absolutely not. The ants will eat your toad. He even says that in the video he's building his islands ant setup. The ants would swarm the toad or toads.

I think it's a cool idea if you have native species to raise ants which the toads do eat in the wild. You would have to release the ants in small amounts like 5 or so at the most so they don't swarm the toads. I thought of the idea of having a separate tank for ants like other feeder insects but I'm all booked right now and don't have any room or I would try the Carpenter Ant. I have American Toads and Gray Tree Frogs and Skinks that would eat the ants.

So to answer your question you could have both species ants and oak toads but not together for the toads safety. It would still be really cool.

You can checkout my setups to see different species of insects that you could keep in your tank.
