    Question Another species?! P. delandi

Saw this ad while looking around the net. A new pixie species? Is this the Tanzania pixie. Very bazaar.

This was being discussed on a forum I am a member on. I have no idea what this is. John will probably know.

It would be good if they showed the whole frog.

That doesn't look like delandi to me - it looks like edulis. I'm very skeptical of the things those sites post, and I don't consider myself an expert on identifying South African Frogs that are not Pyxicephalus adspersus.

I agree with John, that it's P. edulis. There seems to be a confusion with the species name: it is NOT delandi, but delalandei. The two subspecies, Pyxicephalus delalandei delalandei is now Tomopterna delalandei (Cape Sand Frog) and Pyxicephalus delalandei cryptotis is now Tomopterna cryptotis (Tremolo Sand Frog). I have looked at all my African field guides and I could not come up with a Pyxicephalus delandi.

The genus Pyxicephalus has been spit into two genera: Pyxicephalus and Tomopterna.

Wow, Terry! All that just makes my head hurt.

Great info to have. I had no idea that there was a split. I will have to look at those species you mention. Thanks.
