Thread: Where have all my frogs gone?

Default Where have all my frogs gone?

We have had aprox 8 frogs from tadpoles in our small pond now for over three years, this spring we were down to 5. We have not seen them now for a week. There is no other water anywhere around our place. No wild animals that we are aware of. There were two bull frogs one large female and not sure the sex of the others. Any idea what may have happened to them? I miss the little guys.

Young tadpoles are generally pretty vulnerable and a few of them die before maturity. Also birds could be the culprit.

If you're asking about the bull frogs though, they probably just hopped off somewhere else.

I do know generalist species of raptor wouldn't mind going after adult frogs or tadpoles, so that could be an option. If a large storm system moved through, some of the adult frogs could have moved off to larger bodies of water. It's also likely they could still be in there, but hiding. Maybe it'd be worth placing a "Trail camera" around the area to see if the frogs are still there, or if a predator comes in the night.
