Thread: Baby Wood Frogs! Help!

    Default Baby Wood Frogs! Help!

I found 2 juvenile wood frogs in my yard today. I was wondering what it would take to keep them long term. I have experience with toads, so I have access to crickets, fruit flies, springtails, etc. What is their diet like? Can they have any kind of supplements (calcium and D3)? Any brands you like? My setup is a highly decorated 10 gallon. With a reading light (how long should I leave that on a day?) with a shallow spring water filled dish. How often should I dust their food? How much food? Any behavioral traits I should know about?

Also, I have a juvenile toad, and I was wondering if the 2 woodfrogs, and the toad could live together in the ten gallon?

I attached a photo of the 2 frogs, and the setup.

First things first- those are adult chorus frogs, not wood frogs. Don't keep them with your toad. This species is very secretive, and requires lots of hiding places. I would set them up in a planted tank, with substrate (such as ABG, or even soil mixed with peat), leaf litter, and lots of live plants. I would also use a sunken water dish, so they can enter it more easily. A partially covered lid will help maintain humidity. Don't use a light and screen top, that will dry them out. Ambient room lighting should be sufficient.
They will likely eat any small invertebrate that will fit in their mouths- fruit flies, bean beetles, tiny crickets and isopods, as much as they will eat. Dust most times, or even every time.
