I have a bit of a question regarding my young leopard frogs.
When I did my research on the species I was under the impression that leopard frogs liked both land and water, so a 50/50 setup was recommended. However both of my two leopard frogs can almost always be found in the water, and not on the shallow end. They stick their noses out of the water or dive back up to get air but prefer to stay in the deep side of their water (5" deep). Is this normal? The only time I see them on land is when their eating which is once a day, otherwise there in the water.
They are very young and the one just lost the last bit of tail nub, is it because they are just newly frogs?
On a side note they know how to get out of the water just fine, just don't like to.
Humidity is fine as well as temperature, they are in exo terra plantation soil if that makes a difference.
Thanks for any help,
Alyssa
Leopard frogs may be found on the land or in the water in the wild. Newly morphed individuals tend to remain in or near shallow water at first. It sounds like your frogs are behaving normally.
Check this video out and it will give you some help with care for them. I love these guys they are top 5 favorite animal.
