    Default Frog pictures

I thought people might like to see these photographs of some of the frogs I saw in the Dordogne.
One is an edible frog Rana esculenta, the next I think is a Marsh frog rana ridibunda, it was on the edge of its range but there was a large aquarium close by keeping this species in outside ponds, I tride to catch it to look at its metatarsal tubercle but it was much too fast for me. I had seen the last one in the garden of the house I was staying in a few times before I realised it wasn't what I had taken it for, its an agile frog Rana dalmatina.

Are you sure the first one is an Edible frog? I'd be reluctant to nail down the species based solely on that head, given the similarity of the "Green" frogs in the area. I think you're right about the Marsh Frog though. Thanks for posting .

I agree, the first one could be Rana lessonae, but I had seen its whole body, it moved before I could photograph it and some others I examined in the same area looked closer to edible than pool. I do find the green frog complex very interesting, and confusing!
