Either of those plants would work. Personally I'd suggest leaving the top open when and if you can for air circulation, but not everyone thinks that's necessary obviously.

I'd put the plants in the peat. Or if you go the potted route, maybe repot them into a pot with peat. That would prevent chemical fertilizer from leaching out or nematodes in the soil from breeding.

Any of those plants would work! You may need to rinse them off very thoroughly before adding to the tank. Removing dirt from the roots and all and maybe quickly rinsing with a water and tiny bit of bleach solution. those species in general are pretty tough.

We appreciate all the help this community has given us. Sad news is that M. Frog passed away a week ago. There were no signs of issues. One day. well, she just found her beloved M. Frog like that.
It was a great experience having M. Frog in our lives. It was a treat to see my wife talking to and caring for her M. Frog. There are still the three aquariums of tri-tails and standard gold fish, as well as the 'Turt's' tank. "Turts' is the affectionate name for the two painted's in there habitat. M. Frog was a great addition to her family-of-friends.
Again, thank you all for your help in caring for M. Frog.

Aww! I’m sorry. You did a great job caring for M. Frog! Maybe he/she was old?
