About 4 days ago, I feel as though I messed up. I usually feed my frog from the tongs and he attacks it, but 4 days ago I fear I made a mistake. He attacked the tongs like usual, but then I thought he got some of the food and left a piece. Pulling the remaining wing from underneath, I found out he didn't eat any of it and missed it entirely. As I was pulling it out he tried attacking it, but I took the tongs away so he once again so he didn't get anything. Ever since I haven't been able to have him eat anything from the tongs again, any suggestions on how to fix this? I also haven't been able to give him in multivitamin in quite some while.
you can powder them in bags and let him hunt as they go near him but as far as i have tryed a frog will eat eventually because food is life to them. i would keep trying
Sort of delayed, but I've had similar ventures with my Pacman frog. She will attack the tongs, completely miss the food, and then clamp up...it's a frustrating experience for both frog and keeper. I would still try to encourage the tongs, but maybe try different approaches for how you present the item. Are you feeding him during the day or night? Maybe try later at night, if it's possible, since that's when they'd be eating the most in the wild. If it happens again (and it definitely will) and he doesn't try taking the food again, take a break and try again in 20-30 minutes. I've found this to be helpful when my girl misses and gives up.
