My son handled his Pac man frog and it jumped. Son accidentally held on to his leg. It appears to not be working like the other back leg. Pet store says to soak him in the water dish to see if it's actually a shedding issue. If it is broken what do we do. Pet store says it'll fall off and the Pac will survive well enough with three legs. Maybe we'll rename him Pegleg
A broken leg will not fall off on its own, but definitely leave it for a couple days, see how he does. I have a frog that had her leg broke and it healed, its just a little... stiff I guess? Is the bone showing? If not he has a good chance of surviving, especially if it's just a fracture.
Keep us posted! I have posted about above mentioned frog, its thread is 'Poor Frog!' She is doing great today. Hope your frog's leg isn't hurt too bad!
P.S. Since frogs have simpler nervous systems than humans, they can probably cope with things like this(i.e. pain/bone breaks) better than people. If he has surface injuries let us know!
Thank you all. It looks odd like its not folding up under him like the other and when he moves it just looks as if he isn't using it, especially the lower half of the leg. I hope it heals, and there is no bone showing. I wasn't there when it happened but I think he held the foot and maybe the frog tried to get away at the same time. Maybe it's a sprain?
Hopefully it is just a sprain! It could definitely be worse! Can you post a picture? That would really help us help him.
You should probably take him to the vet. Has he been eating or doing any of his normal activities? With the way his leg is, it might interfere with is ability to burrow not to mention the pain may keep him from wanting to eat.
It could heal on its own, but not getting it checked out could be detrimental to his quality of life.
Also...
"Pet store says to soak him in the water dish to see if it's actually a shedding issue...Pet store says it'll fall off..."
Lmao, you tell the pet store his leg may be broken and they think it's a shedding issue? For the sake of your frog, please don't get advice from this pet store anymore because they obviously have no clue what they are talking about. The leg would only fall off if it was necrotizing, and at that point the frog would likely be difficult to save.
