    Lightbulb American toad vivarium build.

So this is Gary and he has been hibernating since November. Gary has decided to start coming out of hibernation the last couple of days and is in desperate need of a tank re do.
I haven't touched it except to mist since he went under.

As you can see it is in a disarray. So this thread Will be about me doing a cool vivarium for him!

So the tank is a 6 gallon Fluval edge I had lying around and yes I know when he is bigger he will need at least a 10 but for now Gary is the size of a Canadian toonie and going into his second year. My plan is to take everything out and wash the tank really well and Starr over from scratch.
I already have hydroballs for the drainage layer, ABG mix from Josh's Frogs since I use that already in all my tanks. I have fluval stratum on order for the water feature as well as the mini water pump and a whole bunch of other things ordered that will be coming in the mail this week. Will keep updating with pictures.

congrats on the successful hibernation. And good luck with your tank stuff! Toads are notorious for trampling things.

Nice looking toad! Good luck with the tank rebuild. Here’s a picture of mine: Name: C7AB5EE1-4C16-412D-BDAA-99B6C8EF46D6.jpeg

I’d recommend adding some plants such as Pothos to add some color and some cover for your toad to hide behind. Also, with Joshs Frogs ABG mix it used to stick to my toads all the time and overall just not look very good with the pieces of charcoal and the white false bottom. Now I cover it up with a layer of crumbled leaf litter and mosses and it looks much nicer and doesn’t get stuck to the toadies.

I like your setup! It is just for toads? Do you have any pictures or videos on your tank? What size is it?

Thanks! Yes, it’s just for my two toads. This tank is a 20G long, and my second build. I tried to emulate the temperate forest atmosphere that my toads came from, although having temperate plants would be way too hard so I opted for some easier, more forgiving plants.

I don’t have any videos but I have some more pics of it in various stages of development:

I used foam, silicone, cork bark, and coco fiber to make a background.

Here it is now with some new plants and more cork rounds for hides. I like this setup a lot because it is very dense and gives the toads plenty of places to hide. It’s a little less appealing looking from a showy / aesthetic direction, but I think the toads really enjoy the variety. I’m really enjoy working on the tank and I’m constantly improving it. It’s really fun to work on! I’m also happy to answer any more questions you have.

You can grow some native plants like ivy and ferns that are small! That is a very nice setup!
