My WTF lucio is sick and I cant figure out why. hes shedding slightly more frequently and he wont eat. I change his water everyday(distilled) and feed him crickets and mealworms. for a period of time i only fed him mealworms and then he stopped eating. i got crickets and he starte eating but then he just randomly stopped a few days later. i have force-fed him when he hadnt eaten for days and he swallowed 2 crickets and a mealworm and then he wasnt eating again and i force fed him but he didnt eat. I had to again a few days later and he swallowed, but once again he wont eat the stuff i force feed him. I dont want to force feed him because i know he doesnt like it so I want to know how to help him or keep this from happeningin the future. Also i want to know if there is something to put at the bottom of his cage permanently other than some dirt substrate. something I dont have to change basically because i dont want to use dirt substrate that bugs can live in and parasite like things.
Distilled water can be bad for amphibians because it causes them to lose minerals through their skin. However, that shouldn't show up for a while.
Has he pooped lately? With the shedding I'd think something fungal, but it might also be impaction. If the frog is constipated you can put him in a bath of warm water (not hot water, you need to measure the temp). You can add a drop of honey to it to help get him to go.
actually thanks i dont think that he has recently. thanks. i hope it will get him to eat aagain
I've heard meal worms and superworms can sometimes cause constipation in smaller frogs, especially since frogs can't chew them up.
