is it normal for a female american toad to just stay in her hide for the majority of the time? she goes out and soaks in her water comes out to eas and burrow into the substrate. but i mainly see her in her hide
It really depends on the toad, but it isn't unusual behavior. My Woodhouse's toads often spend quite a bit of time waiting or doing nothing(they are a similar species.). My toads spend maybe 60-65% of the time burrowed or in a hide. Soaking maybe another 10-20% of the time? One of my toads is soaking right now.

Oh, right. Someone might fact check me on this, but I think toads are more active in a larger enclosure with plants and stuff.
