I got my three Fire Belly Toads three days ago, and I was wondering how I should go about getting them to eat nightcrawlers, and eat them from feeding tongs. One of them is too skittish to eat right now (Sashay), one of them nibbled on a worm I dropped into the tank but spit it out (Pickle), but one did actually eat half a nightcrawler (Streak). Right now I have three nightcrawler halves in the tank with them, but, I doubt they'll eat them. (I'll clean them out tonight.)
Should I expect the other two to warm up to nightcrawlers in the next few days? How long can they go without eating before I get concerned and look into getting emergency crickets? I know that, with them just moving into their new tank, their appetites won't be all there yet, but, there's surprisingly little info about the first few days of toad ownership.
Any helps or tips would be appreciated!
(Quick aside: my tank has been pretty cool the last few days, 64*-61*F, but is currently at 66*F. I have a CHE and thermostat coming tomorrow to bump it up.)
I dunno if you need to tong feed them. You can probably get them to, though. I've only really gotten my Woodhouse's toads to tong feed. I hear they love crickets, so you may want to get them some. They'll acclamate to worms eventually. Some may like them more than others, so some may not ever like them. Or they may prefer smaller bites. I've noticed individual frogs have different food preferences.
