Question can toads eat fly larvae?

I was wondering if my 2 baby eastern american toads and my boreal chorus frog can eat some housefly larvae that i found in my garbage. i was also wondering if i should buy them food from a store or get food from my backyard.

Hi! These are important questions! It is generally considered unhealthy to feed your frog/toad insects caught in the wild due to the risk of them carrying parasites that could be passed to your pets, so I would not recommend feeding these fly larvae to your toads. Most people visit stores like petco or pet smart to pick up crickets, roaches, and other foods. Crickets are the most common, and easiest to find feeder insect, and should be easy to obtain for your new toads. Crickets aren't very nutritious, however, and a staple diet of crickets requires supplementation with a Calicium+D3 supplement and a multivitamin for reptiles/amphibians to avoid metabolic bone disease(caused by a calcium deficiency) and other issues. These are also available at pet stores. If they have crickets, chances are they'll have the vitamins as well. Sorry if I went a little overboard, I hope this helps! If you have any more questions don't hesitate to ask.

Edit: forgot to mention a couple things: first, independent reptile/other pet stores are usually cheaper than the chain stores in my experience, and more selection. I would recommend shopping around a bit. Second, the rule of thumb for selecting a food size is to feed items no larger than the space between the eyes. Sorry for making a long post even longer lmao
