I have an African bullfrog and a tiger salamander. I wanted to vary their diets a bit so I looked at some canned grasshoppers at the pet store. There were two things that made me nervous about it though; the first is that the can said that they are for reptiles, birds, and fish (no mention of amphibians). The second problem is that the insects are apparently cooked. I know that you're not supposed to cook mice before offering them to a pet, so I feel like it wouldn't be safe for an insect either. Does anyone have any experience in feeding canned food to amphibians? Do they make good feeders?
Hi! Considering that they're fine for other Herps, like you mentioned, I would imagine they wouldn't be a problem, but I've also seen a lot of people saying not to feed dead insects to frogs, but I feel that shouldn't apply to canned insects. Apart from that, most frogs hunt by movement, making things difficult. If you feed with tongs, however, you can probably get them to eat it. I'd wait for some more replies, but I don't think I'd recommend it, personally. Hope this helps.
Edit: Found a thread that might help.

Judging from this, it's probably fine.
