Default "Bio-active" substrate for horned frog

I'm moving my male into a new 12 cube and was wondering what thoughts anyone had on putting my dart substrate in there with some iso's? I was thinking of putting a potho or wandering Jew then maybe some broms up top. I always use a false bottom, but I'm w wondering if using a live substrate will work instead of changing my coco every month. When he went dormant for 5 months there were a ton of springtails and their population was insane so it got me thinking.

    Anybody tried this?
