Hi! I am a new member here on the forum but not new to keeping amphibians however I have never kept an American toad before.
I have a couple of things I would like some confirmation on before I go out looking for one. I have read on here that a 12x12 exo terra would be sufficient to keep one in. I believe a well known member named Logan had his toad Lola in this. Is this correct? I have an empty one.
Also my plan is to dust 3 days with reptical d3 then one day vitamins and repeat. Is this schedule acceptable?
Thank you.
Also regarding the laws where I live. I am only allowed one wild caught specimen so only one will be in the exo terra but I want to find a baby and start it off in a small bin before moving to the 12x12.
For a smaller Toad it will work, but for an adult especially a full grown female you would need a little more space because of how big they can get. They like earthworms and waxworms as well so you can add some variety for the toad! Hope this helps

Ok thank you. Is my dusting regimen acceptable?
For a younger Toad the dusting could be good so they get the nutrients like they would in the wild. When they become older probably 1 time a week for both would be beneficial so the Toad doesn't get sick from too much calcium. If you can get a 20 Gallon that would be good for an adult giving it room to explore and hunt. Toads do like to move around if given the opportunity in captivity. It seems like you are serious about keeping one so you will do great

Aaron. Thank you very much. Yes I am serious about keeping it correctly as once it has been in captivity it is illegal to let it go so this will be a pet that I have for its lifetime. I know alot of people probably raise them and release them all the time but I have friends in the MNR so I want to respect our laws. I believe I have a 20 gallon in storage and if not I will buy one when the time comes. Yesterday at a pond by my house they were mating so babies will be around at the end of June. There is already some tadpoles but I have to check if I can order fruit flies before I decide to raise a tadpole or not. If not I will wait till summer to look for a bigger baby.
That's great to hear you have a great plan ahead of you. You will have to give updates on the enclosure when everything is setup.

There may be an update coming soon as I am leaning more towards raising a tadpole. I have all the supplies already from having raised WTF babies but they seemed alot bigger then toad tads and newly metamorphs. I always fed them pin heads but from what I've read they may be too big for the baby toad? Is that correct?
Well an update may be coming sooner than later as I am leaning more towards raising it from a tadpole because whose to say I will even find a baby toad this summer lol. I have all the supplies already as I used to breed WTFs but they seemed bigger then the toad tads and metamorphs. I always fed the metamorphs pinhead crickets but from what I have been reading that may be to big for the metamorph toad. Is that correct?
I think it would be for a little bit of time until the babies get a little bigger
