With how big my frog had been growing so quickly, I was starting to suspect my frog was female. Then I heard that awkward duck honk in my room and had to look up what their croaking sounded like. So I'm guessing my frog is male and pretty close to fully grown at around three inches.
I had been planning on buying an 18x18 exo terra down the road if my frog got big enough, but now I really want one. They look nice and it looks like it would be easier for feeding and misting with the front doors instead of having to remove the lid and the lamp each time I need to get in there. The 12x12 seems kind of small, and not much more room than the 5 gallon he is currently in.
I know for sure it would be overkill. My frog moves maybe once a week to find a new spot like an inch away from his old spot. Would it be overly stressful? Nothing I've done seems to bother him at all, never buries himself fully and always eats even if I mess with the tank a lot. But he lives in a 5 gallon, so who knows in a bigger tank.
I guess while this is here I may as well ask another question too, how often can hornworms be fed? The store near me finally had some nice sized ones so I picked a couple up and my frog just gobbled them up super quick. If they're around long enough I may get a couple to feed throughout the week regularly unless there's something wrong with feeding them frequently.
I really like exoterra tanks. I had a male cranwelli in an 18x18x12 exoterra and ended up downgrading to a 12x12x12 because he never moved. He did well in both enclosures. Hornworms are a treat food. I know most people will feed treats once a month, or once every two months. Look at the thumbs on the frog if its male there will be nuptial pads. They usually come in at around three inches give or take.
Thanks for the response!
I'll definitely look for those nuptial pads, but no guarantees I'll find anything. I am mildly afraid of picking him up. He is very hoppy and I am quite respectful of that giant clamping mouth. I haven't been bit yet, but he has hopped right out of a holding container and away from me at alarming speed!
I'm going to take a better look at both of the exo terras, I think. I may just go for the bigger one and maybe put a potted plant or two in it to make use of some of that room.
