A cane toad was found on our porch, and I will most likely keep it.
I would like some non obvious tips as well as answers to some specific questions.
1 I might be able to convince my dad to let me breed dubias as a staple feeder, but he hates roaches so that might not be an option.
So what else would be a good choice?
No crickets though, I hate the smell and the noise.
Something cheap and easy to cultivate, but healthy.
And are mealworms really that bad? I wouldn't use them as a staple, more of a filler if anything.
2 I have it in an opaque bin at the moment, and when I get a larger one, I'm wondering if, for whatever reason, they prefer a clear enclosure [assuming one could know what they prefer].
And also what are the best humidity levels, I've read they need high humidity, but I've also the opposite. I understand that they are adapted to live in a wide range of conditions, but I want it to be as comfortable as possible. And is room temperature okay?
3 what's the safest way to handle them? I would like to get it 'tame' enough to not mind my presence/touch.
4 how do I tell what gender it is?
There is probably plenty of other questions I want to ask but my work don't brain right at the moment.
I do feel bad about taking it out of its home, but they are invasive, and I'm probably doing the neighbors numerous outdoor pets a life saving favor.
Don't you love it when people let their cats breed out of control, and chain their dogs up?
