Default Philodendrons/devils ivy with whites tree frogs???

    Hello,

I'm setting up a new 10 gallon for a dumpy frog I'm going to pick up next week. I currently have a small 5.0 UVB bulb for it and some loose coconut fiber substrate. I have some artificial jungle vines in there but want to get some live plants to create a more natural, more appealing look for the tank. I don't want to get into expensive, high end plants and catch myself keeping a costly vivarium. That's why I'm wondering if devils ivy is safe to be kept with dumpy frogs. I like the way it grows and fills a tank and it seems like it will be a great plant for the frog to climb around. If it's too risky to use, what other cheap, low light, easy plants can I keep because I eventually want to get a live plant of some kind. Let me know what you all think!

    Thanks,
    Sam

It will be fine for your frog and grow well even under low lighting. It grows rapidly in moist conditions so I've always used clippings in gravel or LECA with some water. This will keep you from having to water it and will raise the tank humidity to a degree but if you do it this way then keep an eye to make sure humidity doesn't go too high - above 70%. Any frog droppings or urine that falls into the jar will then fertilise the plant.

Ok sounds good. What do you mean by clippings in gravel and LECA with some water? Cant i just mist the tank often with a spray bottle? Also I'm planning on buying Golden devils ivy so is that species ok?

You cut the plant at the stem, then plant it into the gravel or LECA and add some water. It keeps the roots nice and moist, better for growing. You can also mist it but keep in mind this plants likes more moisture than white tree frogs do. I think all are safe, just rinse the plants in water to remove pesticides before use.
