Hi there!
It seems to be a common problem with Pacman frogs not eating and I tried several tips I found online, but our frog Cartman still doesn't eat.
We have him for about 2 months now and when we first got him he ate crickets. They had to run directly towards him for him to react but he ate a cricket almost every day.
Then he decided "no more!" and for a good four to five weeks now he only ate one cricket that we "force fed" him: my husband held him and put an old debit card in front of his face and when Cartman bit the card we carefully opened his mouth with it and I put a calcium dusted cricket into his mouth, and he ate it.
Occasionally he will take a cricket into his mouth but then spit it out again. If we let a cricket dangle right in front of his face he will bury or "scream" at us.
We tried nightcrawlers too but he immediately turns away from them.
He is too small for horn worms or pinkies. We tried every size of cricket and none of them sparks his interest.
We gave him a bath in warm honey water so he can absorb some nutrients through the skin, but that's not really a solution. Last time he ate he pooped too.
He lives in a 10 gallon tank with coconut substrate to bury, a water pool that he sometimes uses, and a wooden house that he hasn't used in ages. He has a 12/12 hrs cycle most of the time but occasionally he will be out during the day, but also won't eat then. Temp and humidity are okay.
He did not lose weight as far as we can tell and he is not lethargic, dry, puffed up, buries himself all the time or seems stressed.
We're at a loss now. We found different posts online that say the juvenile frogs will die after 3 weeks of no food, others say they can last quite a while when they're in hibernation mode, but he neither died yet nor is he hibernating. It's rather frustrating, not knowing what's wrong.
Do you have any more ideas and tips what we could do?
Thank you a lot!
Steffi
Hi, what is the actual temperature and how is it being provided?
Yeah I would use one, try keep them about 81F (27C) during the day and switch the heater off at night
