Thread: Red sores on frog

    Post Red sores on frog

Hey everyone. First and foremost, Merry Christmas to all!

So, lately I have noticed one of my frogs had some little sores on his toes. At first I assumed it was just a random injury that would heal on its own. Unfortunately, he seems to have a few more on the other foot now. I'm not quite sure what may be the problem, but I want to fix it before it gets any worse.

Any help would be immensely appreciated. Thanks!

It looks like a bacterial infection. To prevent any further problems, isolate the frog in a hospital tank and follow this treatment schedule: ACFs can spend quite a long time out of the water as long as they are kept moist. Place frog in a hospital tank without water and swab infected area with BACTINE. Wait 20 minutes and place frog back into the hospital tank with water. Repeat twice daily until clear. Change water each time. If the red spots begin to cover the legs and thighs, then it becomes a much more serious problem, like "red leg".

I figured that's what it was. I'm in the middle of a Tetracycline treatment atm.

    UPDATE:

I put the last dose of Tatracycline in the tank a day or two ago. The only thing it seemed to accomplish is making the water turn a nasty color. My frog's sores don't seem to have healed up any. So now I'm gonna try to find some bactine and a spare tank and follow Terry's advice. How long do you figure it'll take for the bactine to have a noticeable effect?

Sorry to take a while to get back to you. It may take a week or more. Bacterial infections are tough to treat.

This treatment thing has got me so flustered. I stopped trying to treat him because I'm scared I'm gonna stress him to death every time I take him out of the tank. He kicks and jumps (really high, i might add) and carries on and I feel really bad for having to put him through it.
