What's the best position for the hygrometer probe to be? And also, I'm not sure how accurate it is (exo terra digital) but where it currently is, it's showing 93% yet I'm getting dry patches on my substrate? Am I doing something wrong?
Hygrometers can be innacurate* and easily damaged by moisture or skewed by placement. Zoo Meds I have found to be fine, though. For best placement it should be in the middle of the tank.
Since you have a horned frog, I would just leave the hygrometer and aim to keep the substrate moist. If you can clump it in your hand and have to apply some pressure squeeze water out, then it should be fine. They're not too sensitive to humidity.
You will get dry patches on top but that's fine. Having some sort of humidity gradients is not a bad idea. When the frog digs into the substrate it can seek out more moisture at the lower level
