So In general whats the rule of thumb for how many dart frogs per gallon of tank? how many is comfortable and not crowded in say a 30 gallon tank? Thanks!
It varies for different species, but in a 30 gallon, I would go with 2-4 and watch for bullying. It's better to start small and increase from there.
2.0.3 Hyla versicolor "Eastern Gray Tree Frogs"
2.2.0 Agalychnis callidryas "Red Eyed Tree Frogs"
0.0.3 Dendrobates auratus "Turquoise and Bronze"
0.0.1 Anaxyrus fowleri "Fowler's Toad"
It all depends on the species. Species such as D. auratus or D. leucamelas coexist with each other much better than, say, D. tinctorius. (females have been known to fight and bully each other) available cover and hiding places come into play as well. A communal species like auratus generally are given 5-10 gallons per frog, while tincs are around the 10+ gallon mark. Thumbnails are generally around the 5-10 gallon mark as well. What species are you thinking? Can you post a picture of the tank?
Whichever amount/species you go with, good luck! Dart frogs are my all time favorite captive!
