Default Ceratophrys aurita / joazeirensis / spp. identification

    Hello all !

I need help to identify some of my Ceratophrys pictures, taken at various places and, according to me, with doubtful identification. Any advice, input and info will be much appreciated !

1/ Labelled as Ceratophrys aurita, from a french reptile shop

2/ Also labelled as Ceratophrys aurita, from the same reptile shop... this one could be a true aurita, I think...

    3/ Unlabelled, from Singapore zoo

4/ Labelled as Ceratophrys aurita from another french reptile shop... this one looks more like C. joazeirensis to me...

5/ From a private french owner... he thought it could be C. calcarata or C. aurita but nothing certain

That's it ! Thanks a lot in advance for any help you can provide !

All the best from rainy and cold France !

I'm no pro but I will give my opinion, the first looks like a Cornuta or fantasy frog, the second to me looks cranwelli, and the other 3 look to me like they are some kind of fantasy frog. But again I'm no pro, the true Aurita ( the one that supposedly can get the size of a small plate ) is very hard to come by. Again I could be wrong. And the 4th one I believe now looking again is just a cranwelli morph, I have seen this exact frog a couple times here and thought the same thing. I was so convinced it was I called the frog ranch to see ( that's were guy orders from ) to be told that no its a cranwelli morph and he doesn't breed the Joazeirensis. I forget the name of the morph but it was just straight Cranwelli.

As they all look pretty much the same and each species is possible of producing many colourstions and with hybrids, horned frogs to me are confusing....

the bottom is definitely a fantasy. You could buy some books that identify frogs around the world.

Thanks to you two for your answer ! Any other, please ? I would be especially grateful to get ID hints on the third picture (from Singapore Zoo).

To Jason : I do have some books already but I have yet to find one that describes all Ceratophrys species accurately and in detail. Do you have any good reference for them?

I have the care books, but unfortunately they're more focused on the care of popular horned frogs and lack good pictures of the others, just descriptions of where they are from. One book I have thought of getting is frogs and toads of the world by Chris mattison. I already have a book of his and it's pretty good on care. It might have some photos of the different horned frogs. The third does look like C. Aurita, from any pictures as I have seen and the fact that it does not look like C. cornuta.
