    Question Bull Frog Tadpole

I saved a baby bullfrog from being thrown into the garbage. I've had him for 3 days now, he's eating like a champ and somewhat active. He's getting smaller though. He doesn't have any legs yet, but does have some little buds forming. When I first got him, he was about the length of my hand and now he is about half of that. Should I be worried? Is this normal? Any tips or info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

    Hi MommaBear,

Great to hear that you saved the tadpole!

It is completely normal for your bullfrog tadpole to decrease in length. It is simply beginning the process of absorbing its tail. It will then develop lungs and its gills will disappear. However, it will continue to live in water. Bullfrog tadpoles can be slow to mature into bullfrogs. It can take as long as 2-3 years to complete this process.

    Hope this is helpful.

    All the best...

    RJ
