We had 100 the other day, but the Hubby says that we have maybe 80 now.
I will post pics up of the Momma soon......her name is Jello. She jiggles when she moves and every time I see her jiggle, I hear the song from the commercial...."J-E-L-L-Ooooooo!"

    Wow, congratulations!!
I look forward to seeing them grow. .... fast!

I will have to lookto see if you posted anything about the process. I am really interested to trying to breed my pixies. Reading as much as possible to mentally prepare and make sure to set the 'mood' properly.

    Cheers

That's awesome! Would you be interested in writing a care and breeding article for the site? We could sure use one.

Very well done to both of you and thanks for showing us the photos . I agree with Kurt, we would love a care article for this species please, particularly from someone who has bred them.

We would love to do one. What an honor! The tadpoles are now forming the front legs and are growing in mass! They eat more every day......can't wait to see them emerge and start eating bugs!

We were told when we decided to attempt the breeding that the tadpoles would only eat live foods. We have fed them mosquito larvae which are plentiful down here in Texas, as well as Gulf Coast Tadpoles as far as live foods go. But to be honest, the staple diet has been frozen Bloodworms. They LOVE them!

That's great about the article - that's really something awesome actually.

About the foods, be aware that these guys are notorious for eating each other, particularly as they near metamorphosis.

I keep meaning to take some pics of Jello, but we have been super busy with the tadpoles and a whole bunch of eggs hatching from the incubator. I promise I will get pics and post them up soon!

Yes, we knew from the start that they are cannibalistic.....it's why we have been trying so hard to keep them well fed. But thanks for the advice!

That is awesome. Good luck in rearing what you have left though. I know they take down blackworms like no tommorow.

Have you planned how you are going to separate the new froglets? That would be one of my biggest concerns breeding pixies. How the heck can I separate hundreds of frogs and feed and clean them.

Pardon me. I just saw your other thread on the progress of the froglets.

How will you be separating them? The breeder i bought mine from kept all together in large tubs, separating out larger ones as they grew (and in a lot of cases starting eating sibling).

We currently have them in small deli cups individually. These will be easy to keep them in, just the right size, and easy for sanitizing when we do the Chytrid Treatments. Even though there are lots of them, the deli cups are stackable and have holes on the lids and the sides of the cups for good air flow.

We also have the smaller ones in tubs according to size and are separating them once they have at least back legs free. We did have some cannibalism, which was expected. But we keep them well fed and try our best to avoid it if at all possible.
