    Default Pink mice

    Hi

I'm reciecing a juvenile giant African bull frog tomorrow. I've read several books and tanks ready, but I'm stuck at feeding and supplements. I plan on feeding a very varied diet and frequent food, which includes pink mice. Books are recommending dipping the rump of mice in calcium, but I'm not sure if it's to be assumed that it's calcium with D3 or not to balance it out, usually it's recommend to use with D3.

    What do you guys use?

Ive never dusted my pink mice when feeding my whites or pacmans. You can do so by dipping the mouse in water then
dusting the little guy in the calcium or vitamins. We are talking frozen thawed here right? If you want feeders that are high
in calcium i recommend Phoinex worms.

Thanks for the reply. How often do you include them? Yes frozen thawed, I think it's illegal to feed live vertebrates in the UK. I might try Phoenix worms, the more I can include to vary the diet the better. Do you dust them with anything? I normally use calcium plus which contains D3 on every insect feeding as directed with all my animals

I don't dust phoinex worms, they already have high amounts of calcium. I feed pink mice very occasionally
, only once every 2-3 months. You can probably feed pink mice every month at the most.

I never do pinkies. I just wait until bigger and feed small-adults mice. I usually do once a month and don't bother with dusting. Think of it as a candy bar once a month.

Calcium 2x a week and multivitamin 1x is the norm. I do this with a batch of dubias and earthworms. Treat these the same way as you would your pacman.

    Thanks

I'm wanting to get some whole vertebrates in as soon as possible and once every two weeks, used to feed pink mice to frogs much less but I heard these guys really need some mice or fish in the diet and I don't want to use fish. I never used to bother supplementing earthworms and mice as they were treat and I used standard supplements so could be used less and still be effective but I'm using calcium plus now which is diluted and meant to be used every feed, so that's where the concern comes in. I think I'm leaning towards just dusting the pink mice with calcium D3 but not other vitamins

Not really. Their care is almost identical to pacman. I fed and maintained my old male exactly the same has my pacman with exception of a bigger water area.

Its more of a variety thing. The supplementation I listed above takes care of its needs. Mice and fish are just extras. Honestly their aggressive garbage disposals. Most people just feed that to feed it. I may feed parasite free mice/lizards/culled cichlids for variety, but my main staple by a long shot is insects. Particularly earthworms.

I put a handful of insects in a baggy shake it with calcium 2x a week and then do the same with a multivitamin 1x week. Feeding a pyxie I keep tossing in bugs by the cup full for 10min then stop unless I give a mouse. I let it hunt the vertebrate then once done I feed insects again. After a mouse I don't feed for several days and let it soak then resume the staple.
