I have a group of 6 whites tree frogs in the exo terra 36"H x 24" W x 18" D. The tank is planted, but I hate the way the tank looks and I want to redo it completely. A few of my whites really like to soak, so I wanted a big water pool. However, with the mess that whites produce will a water pool be too much work keeping clean? I hate the look of a water dish, not to mention the size. I'd like to have either the front length of the tank or a corner of the tank as the water area. I'm also trying to figure out a background that will look good but also suit my frogs' preferences. They like rocky ledges like I have for them now, but I want the background to be living. Any advice as well as pictures of other terrariums are welcome!

Could you post pictures of it? That would help a lot
As far as the water pool goes, it might be possible to have the bottom filled with shallow water (along with rocks too large to eat and other things to climb out onto.) I hear keeping up shallow water takes a little more work than a regular aquarium, but judging by people on this forum it's quite doable. You'd need a small filter at the bottom of the tank.
Or you could divide the tank somehow (there are examples in the building vivarium thread somewhere I think). Just note it seems like the less water you have the more you'd have to maintain it. Also, if most of the tank is substrate, lots of it may end up in the water.
Thanks for the response. I wanted to have about half or more of the bottom as a shallow pool. I was thinking I would layer rocks and put moss at the entrance of the pool to help with the dirt going into the pool, and I'll definitely use a filter!

Silicon-gluing a plexiglass divider is one method of division, I know there are more but I can't think of them off the top of my head. Just remember to let the silicone cure and you should be okay. The spray foam people recommend for vivariums might work to conceal the edge of the divider.
Hopefully more experienced vivarium makers will have something to add.
