Thread: Red Eyed Tree Frog Tank Size

Default Red Eyed Tree Frog Tank Size

I have one red eyed tree frog currently in an enclosure that is about 11 gallons. However, I don't want him to be alone. What is a good tank size for, say, 3 retfs?

11 gal is too small, even for one so good that you'll be sizing up. An exo terra 18 x 18 x 24" is the size you'd be looking for 1 to maybe 4 frogs I had these guys years ago, great frogs.

    Okay, thanks

I should've known I would get the wrong info at the pet store. I think I have an Exo Terra 12 x 12 x 18. Luckily he hasn't been in it for too long. I'll try to get a new enclosure as soon as I can, and get some new buddies for my little frog

That's usually the case with pet shops but I have been to a few who know what they're talking about but I suppose the main problem is they deal with so many animals that it's very hard to get care 100% on each species. If you look on the actual Exo Terra catalogue, it says that tank is suitable for juveniles and I mentioned is for adults. With the bigger one you'd have enough space to do a planted set up as well, which will help with humidity and save you on cleaning

For 4 frogs you are looking for the biggest exo terra ( 36x18x36) if you want to keep them happy! 12x12x18 is not big enough even for 1 juvenile-adult, it is a prison.
18x18x24 is ok for 1 male, and on a smaller size if you happen to have a female. They are jumpers and moving lots at night, small spaces will stress them out.
    Love red eyes!
Save one animal and it doesn't change the world, but it surely changes the world for that one animal!

You could also get the 36x18x24 if you don't have space for so much width, it's the one I keep my 6 whites in. I suggest buying the bigger tank, then buying some more frogs so you can keep them in the smaller tank until you're sure they're healthy.

Yeah, I don't think my frog can be more than a few months old, so I guess this will be fine for a short while longer. The problem is how expensive the other tanks are...
Well, I'll try to get one as soon as I can. I'll look for something used, maybe, so that it will be cheaper.

I'll stick with what I said with the 18 x 18 x 24" but the 24 x 18 x 24" would be ideal and anything bigger is great but not a must. You could get a large fish tank, might be cheaper. I kept two in a 40 gal breeder I think it was.

The tanks don't have things like the doors that Exo-Terra tanks do, though.

Yeah, that's true. If I were you I'd go in look at some tanks and see what you think would suit the frogs best as well as your budget. everyone has their own opinions on what tank size to use, as you can see. Just set 29 gals or the 18 x 18 x 24" as your minimum, I think everyone would agree on that.

Keep an eye on craigslist. I've gotten 18x18x24 exo terras for $70 or less.
