Default My Red Eyed Tree Frog has Died : (

    Hi guys.

I have recently added another Red Eye to my current one. The newest one has sadly passed at some point last night. Humidity and Temp have never been a probably and my original Red Eye is in perfect health. He doubled in size since I've had him .

The only different between the two that I have noticed is that my original slept to the top half of the tank like a normal Red Eye. The new one however (since the day I got him) has slept on the edge of my water bowl. At first I moved him but each bight he would end up in the same spot so I left him to do his thing. The only thing I would have thought to trigger this behaviour would be Humidity? But that's fine. He is from a different batch to my current frog and was purchased Monday (as a birthday present).

Please help! Any advice/view would be awesome!

    Regards Dean

Don't know what caused it, but you should monitor your current red-eyed tree frog for any signs of illness. This is why any new arrivals should be quarantined for at least 30 days before being put with the new one. Here is a guide to help figure out why your new red-eye passed away:

    1. Size of enclosure?

    2. # of inhabitants - specifically other frogs and size differences?

    3. Humidity?

    4. Temperature?

    5. Water - type - for both misting and soaking dish?

    6. Materials used for substrate?

    7. Enclosure set up i.e. plants (live or artificial), wood, bark and other materials. - How were things prepared prior to being put into the viv?

    8. Main food source?

    9. Vitamins and calcium? (how often?)

    10. Lighting?

    11. What is being used to maintain the temperature of the enclosure?

    12. When is the last time he/she ate?

    13. Have you found poop lately?

    14. A pic would be helpful including frog and enclosure (any including cell phone pic is fine)

    15. Describe frog's symptoms and/or recent physical changes; to include it's ventral/belly area.

    16. How old is the frog?

    17. How long have you owned him/her?

    18. Is the frog wild caught or captive bred?

    19. Frog food- how often and if it is diverse, what other feeders are used as treats?

    20. How often the frog is handled?

    21. Is the enclosure kept in a high or low traffic area?

    22. Describe enclosure maintenance (water changes, cleaning, etc)

Thanks for the info. I've only had the for a week and the sleeping sign was the only significant difference to my frog. My frog is also a slight bit larger (literally the tiniest bit) I could post a picture if you like as I have frozen the frog? He looks bloated but I think that due to being dead in water all night. I opened his mouth out of curiosity and again looks bloated. Literally would struggle to fit anything down there but again I think this is due to the being in the water all night...

The bloating may or may not be related to the water. Do you know the frogs origins, was it Wild Caught (WC) or Captive Bred? (CB) CB specimens are much healthier, WC specimens often carry diseases and illnesses which don't improve when they're being shipped like half-way across the world

Also wouldn't hurt to snoop around here on other posts to see if anyone else has encountered the same problem that you have

Will do. Thanks for your help. And yes it's captive bread as I don't deal with WC due the reasons you have outlined
