It's next to impossible to find anything besides melanogasters where I live. I already have a colony set up (for my golden mantella) and I'm looking on expanding to dart frogs. I've been reading that larger species won't take them. If this is true, what are some good ones to try to find?
Side question:
My grandma sprayed weed killer on her lawn earlier in this year's summer. Would it be fine to take leaves for my tanks now, or should I look elsewhere?
It's not that the larger species, such as D. Tinctorius or P. Terribilis, won't take Melos, they will, a LOT of them. It's just that hydei flies are larger and you would feed less. Smaller darts, like the thumbs (ranitomeya soecies, oophaga species, ect) will happily feed on Melos their entire lives.
As far as the leaves, no do not use anything from anywhere pesticides were used, regardless of how long ago it was used. Check online suppliers, like understory enterprises, they should have prepared, vivarium safe leaf litter for cheap and they are in Canada.
