Hello,
I have always loved Frogs. Did not know where to post this, so this looked like the nearest thing to an American Bullfrog place tom ask a question.
About 10 years ago, we put a pond in our back yard, about 20 by 26 feet. Within a few years, the Bullfrogs started showing up. Usually have about 6 big ones in the pond outside every year. Now here is my question, I have researched and come up with nothing. Anyway, about 2-3 frogs have this same problem every year, and eventually die. It's like they have lost all their power in one side of their body. When they attempt to swim, they just keep going sideways, flopping over trying to swim on their backs. They seem to have little control, and a hard time even getting to the bottom of the pond to hide. Anyone know what is causing this? Sickness, injury, or disease?
Thanks in advance for any help. Love our little guys, hate to see this happen every year, usually in the fall is when we notice we have a couple that are in trouble.
Do you use pesticides and other lawn poisons? If so, they could be eating prey that has the toxins in it and dying
Good thought. No, I refuse to use any form of pesticides as I want the bugs around to keep the frogs fat. Used to use pesticides years ago, and slug bait. Have not had to since the frogs are here, no slugs eating the plants. The frogs do a good job of that. We do however use a lawn fertilizer about three times a year. the lawn is about 40 feet away from the Pond.
Also, this should have been in the true frogs section. Mods, can you move the thread?
